FBK and ELI-ERIC: a robust enduring collaboration
In February 2023, the ELI-ERIC European research consortium and Fondazione Bruno Kessler signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for science and technology cooperation. This MoU aims to strengthen the collaboration between the two institutes and to advance the research in various fields of science and technology.
The MoU is particularly significant for Dr. Antonino Picciotto, the coordinator of research and technology process development at the Micro Nano Facility, who has been working with ELI-Beamlines for the past 15 years. Dr. Picciotto, along with his colleague Dr. Daniele Margarone (Scientific Director of Research Operations at ELI-Beamlines Facility), has been carrying out pioneering research in advanced materials for particle acceleration with unconventional systems and for “almost clean” laser-driven nuclear fusion.
Their research has resulted in over 40 peer-reviewed publications, several international patents, and has demonstrated the technological capabilities of the Micro-Nano Facility in a wide variety of research areas. The latest manuscript about laser-driven proton-boron fusion reactions has been recently published on Communications Physics.
