FANES // FAst prototyping of Nitride Electro-photonic Sensors, 2025-2026

The project “FAst prototyping of Nitride Electro-photonic Sensors,” funded under Provincial Law No. 6/2023, brings together Femtorays Technologies (FTH) and the Sensors and Devices Center at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (specifically the MST and I&QO research units). The primary goal is to enhance FTH’s molecular diagnostics system and develop an innovative diagnostic kit based on salivary biomarkers.

  • Key features

This next-generation kit stands out for its high sensitivity and non-invasive nature, capitalizing on FTH’s proprietary nanosensor technology. At the heart of the system lies a patented photonic lab-on-chip, which allows for feedback-controlled sensor operation and achieves exceptional signal-to-noise performance.

As part of this project, FBK is working closely with FTH on the system integration of microfluidic modules using a rapid prototyping approach. The ultimate objectives are to transition the microchip design to high-volume manufacturing and to validate the system in collaboration with the Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari of Trento (APSS).
