RAIDD
RAIDD is an eHealth research project focused on the development of innovative ICT technologies and miniaturised sensing systems for digital diagnostics.
The project aims to create a compact diagnostic platform connected to a smartphone, designed to support diabetes monitoring both in conventional healthcare settings and in areas with limited access to laboratory facilities.
The system integrates disposable sensor modules, control electronics, data processing and communication technologies within a smartphone cover or an external module connected via USB or NFC. It is designed to perform key point-of-care functions, including sample preparation, detection, data visualisation and transmission.
RAIDD focuses on two main applications. The first is minimally invasive glucose monitoring through interstitial fluid, using a disposable cartridge equipped with hollow silicon microneedles, microfluidic components and an electrochemical biosensor. The second is breath acetone analysis using miniaturised silicon gas sensors, supporting the detection of metabolic alterations associated with type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.
By combining sensors, microfabrication, electronics and digital health technologies, RAIDD seeks to enable more accessible, decentralised and user-friendly diagnostic monitoring, while improving diabetes management and communication between patients and healthcare professionals.
